Why Richelieu Rock is a bucket-list dive
Richelieu Rock is much more than a single wall or reef. The submerged formation wraps around in a broad horseshoe, with ledges, channels and sections that can reward more than one dive. One side may be alive with schooling fish while another offers smaller subjects hidden among soft corals and sea fans.- Marine-life density: large schools of barracuda, trevally and snapper are frequently associated with the site.
- Macro interest: experienced spotters may find seahorses, pipefish, nudibranchs and other small reef life.
- Colour and structure: soft corals, anemones, limestone formations and changing depth profiles make every section feel different.
- Pelagic potential: whale sharks and manta rays are possible seasonal visitors, although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.
- Repeat-dive value: the site is extensive enough that a second, third or later dive can reveal a completely different area.
What the world dive lists actually say

Who is Richelieu Rock diving for?
We particularly recommend Richelieu Rock to Advanced Open Water divers and above, especially divers who are comfortable with boat entries, changing current and open-water conditions. A current may be mild on one visit and more demanding on another, so the dive plan, entry point and route always depend on the conditions that day. Recent diving experience matters as much as the certification card. If you have not dived for a while, tell us when enquiring so we can help you choose the safest preparation. Open Water divers may only be suitable in limited circumstances and with approval from the dive team; a private guide can be requested for additional support, but it does not replace the experience needed for the conditions. One day or an overnight Richelieu Rock trip?
The right option depends on how much time you have and how central Richelieu Rock is to your holiday. A day trip gives you a focused taste of the site. An overnight itinerary gives the destination more room and adds the wider Surin Islands diving experience.Richelieu Rock scuba day trip: two dives
The Richelieu Rock scuba day trip operates on Sundays and Tuesdays under the current day-trip schedule. Day-trip divers transfer by speedboat to the liveaboard and make two open-water dives at Richelieu Rock.- Current trip price: ฿6,100 per diver
- Return hotel transfers from Phuket and Khao Lak are included
- Breakfast and lunch are included
- National park and diving fees: ฿700, paid on board
- Rental equipment, Nitrox, 15-litre cylinders and private guides are available as paid extras
Two days and one night: more time at Richelieu Rock
The two-day, one-night scuba diving trip is the stronger bucket-list option for divers who can spare an overnight stay. The current itinerary includes three Richelieu Rock dives on day one, followed by three dives around the Surin Islands on day two.- Six dives across two days
- Current price: ฿18,400 per diver, including return hotel transfer
- Sunday and Tuesday departures under the current schedule
- Meals and accommodation on the liveaboard included
- More time to explore different parts of Richelieu Rock
Three days, two nights and longer liveaboards
Longer Similan and Surin scuba trips can also include Richelieu Rock, depending on the selected start day and weekly route. These trips suit travelling divers who want a broader northern Andaman itinerary rather than a single-site mission. Ask us to check the exact departure before booking if Richelieu Rock is essential to your plans. When is the best time to dive Richelieu Rock?
The Surin and Similan marine-park season generally runs from around mid-October to mid-May. PADI highlights the later part of the season as a period associated with possible whale shark activity, but no one can promise a particular animal or set of conditions. Visibility, current and marine life vary naturally. For serious travelling divers, the best approach is to choose the trip length that gives you enough diving, arrive with an appropriate certification and recent experience, and treat any large-animal encounter as a bonus rather than a guarantee. How to plan your Richelieu Rock dive
- Choose between the focused one-day, two-dive trip and the two-day, one-night six-dive trip.
- Tell us your certification level, total dives and date of your most recent dive.
- Confirm your preferred date and hotel location so we can check the live schedule and transfer.
- Request rental gear, Nitrox, a 15-litre cylinder or a private guide if needed.
- Keep your travel plans flexible enough for weather and marine-park conditions.
