Koh Miang, or Island 4, is where many Similan day trips slow down.
After the speedboat crossing and a snorkelling session, this forested island normally provides the day’s main beach, lunch and rest stop. It is one of the two visitor islands most customers remember, together with Koh Similan, Island 8.
What is Koh Miang like?
Koh Miang is a substantial forested island in the central part of the original nine-island chain. It has pale beaches, clear water, granite shoreline and national park facilities.
The visitor experience is different from a commercial resort island:
- There are no streets of shops or beach clubs.
- Facilities are controlled by the national park.
- Wildlife and habitat take priority.
- Access and usable areas can change under park instructions.
Come for the scenery and protected environment, not for shopping or nightlife.
Princess Beach
Princess Beach has soft sand and a tropical setting, although water and wave conditions vary.
Guests may have time to:
- Swim in the permitted area
- Relax on the sand
- Take photographs
- Eat lunch
- Walk only where park signs and staff allow
The beach can become busy when several boats arrive. Follow the guide’s meeting time rather than moving far from the group.
Is lunch served on Island 4?
The standard day-trip programme normally includes lunch during the Island 4 stop.
The meal format can change. Tell us about vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free and allergy requirements before booking. We will check which dietary requests can be accommodated before you book.
Do not leave food for birds or other animals. Feeding changes wildlife behaviour and can create health and safety problems.
What animals live on Koh Miang?
The Similan park supports forest and beach wildlife as well as marine life. Birds recorded in the wider park include white-bellied sea eagles, Brahminy kites, terns, kingfishers and pigeons. Nicobar pigeons are among the striking birds visitors may notice in the island environment.
Flying foxes, crabs, reptiles and other small island animals are also associated with the park.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Keep a respectful distance and do not:
- Feed animals
- Touch nests or young
- Use flash at close range
- Block an animal’s route
- Play calls or sounds to attract birds
Sea turtles and Koh Miang
The Department of National Parks has documented green-turtle nesting and hatchling activity around Koh Miang. In October 2025, the park reported a green turtle nest at Little Beach on Island 4.
This is conservation evidence, not a promise that day visitors will see a turtle.
Never enter a roped nesting area, handle hatchlings or crowd a turtle. Follow ranger instructions immediately.
Can I snorkel directly from the beach?
The main guided snorkelling sessions are normally conducted from the boat at sites chosen for that day.
Swimming from the beach may be allowed in a designated area, but it is not automatically a guided reef snorkel. Ask the guide where swimming is permitted and whether life jackets are required.
Are there viewpoints or walks?
Koh Miang has forest paths and more than one beach area, but available routes depend on current park management, timing and conditions.
Check with us before booking if there is a particular walking trail you would like to visit. The best-known public viewpoint on the standard day trip is Sailing Rock on Island 8.
How much time will I have?
The itinerary normally allows enough time for lunch and a break, but the exact duration varies.
Boat arrival, crowd control, weather and earlier snorkelling stops all affect the schedule. Stay ready to leave when the guide calls the group.
Responsible Island 4 visit
- Bring reusable items where permitted.
- Follow current plastic restrictions.
- Keep all litter with you until the correct disposal point.
- Do not remove shells, sand, coral or plants.
- Do not stand on reef or rock pools.
- Use the toilet and washing facilities responsibly because freshwater is limited on small islands.
Is Koh Miang included in every Similan trip?
It is a normal stop in the current standard itinerary, but no island stop should be guaranteed against weather, safety or park instructions.
Ask us to confirm the planned programme for your date if Island 4 is especially important to you.
