What should I bring?

When embarking on a day trip to the Similan Islands, it’s important to pack wisely to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Here are some recommended items to bring with you:

  • Swimwear: Don’t forget to pack your favorite swimsuit or swim trunks. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to swim, snorkel, and enjoy the pristine waters surrounding the islands.
  • Sunscreen: The sun can be intense in tropical regions, so pack a high-SPF sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Choose a reef-safe sunscreen to help preserve the fragile marine ecosystem.
  • Hat and Sunglasses: Bring a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from the sun. This will provide extra protection and make your time in the sun more comfortable.
  • Snorkeling Gear: We provide snorkeling gear but, it’s always a good idea to bring your own if you have it. This includes a mask, snorkel, and fins. Having your own gear ensures a proper fit and comfort.
  • Towel: Pack a lightweight and quick-drying towel to dry off after swimming or snorkeling. It’s also handy for lounging on the beach.
  • Water Shoes: While not mandatory, water shoes can be useful for navigating rocky areas and protecting your feet from sharp coral or rocks.
  • Camera or Waterproof Phone Case: Capture the beauty of the Similan Islands with a camera or a waterproof phone case. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to document stunning landscapes and marine life.
  • Insect Repellent: While the Similan Islands are not heavily infested with mosquitoes, it’s always a good idea to bring insect repellent, especially if you plan to explore the interior of the islands.
  • Cash: Bring some Thai baht for any additional expenses, such as purchasing souvenirs.
  • Remember to pack light, as you’ll want to be comfortable during your day trip.

Is Similan Islands good for snorkeling?

The Similan Islands are an exceptional destination for snorkeling enthusiasts. With their warm and clear waters boasting visibility of up to thirty meters or more, the islands offer an unforgettable snorkeling experience. The marine life is diverse and vibrant, featuring beautiful corals and an array of colorful fish, including Snappers, Surgeon Fish, and Parrot Fish. Lucky snorkelers may even encounter turtles, Blue Spotted Stingrays, and other fascinating marine creatures. The Similan Islands’ underwater wonders make it a must-visit destination for both seasoned snorkelers and beginners alike.

Can non-swimmers do snorkeling?

One of the fantastic aspects of snorkeling is its accessibility to most individuals, requiring minimal equipment. However, like any water sport, it is recommended that participants have a certain level of water confidence and ability. If you are determined to try snorkeling, there are a few essential measures to follow.

It is crucial to inform your dive instructor about your abilities and any concerns you may have. Experienced instructors can keep a watchful eye on you and provide helpful guidance. Additionally, you will be provided with a life jacket to aid in floatation. Prior to entering the water, ensure that your mask fits correctly, which is crucial for any snorkeler, especially those who are not confident swimmers. This will eliminate any fear of the mask filling up with water. Furthermore, practicing taking your snorkel mask on and off beforehand will help you feel more confident in the water.

In summary, even non-swimmers can enjoy snorkeling, but it is advisable to develop your water confidence and ability before embarking on the activity. Informing your dive instructor of your skill level is essential for your safety, as well as that of your fellow snorkelers.
