What safety precautions are implemented for this trip?

All speedboats come with lifejackets and a marine radio. Each speedboat has a specified maximum capacity, and this limit is never exceeded. Insurance coverage for all our guests is also provided.

Throughout the day, the Thai boat captains closely monitor sea conditions. In the event of unfavorable conditions such as high winds and large waves that may jeopardize safety, the captains will depart from Surin in the early afternoon to ensure a secure return to shore. If the morning conditions are deemed unsafe, the trip will be canceled. In such cases, we can assist you in rescheduling your trip for another day or provide a full refund.

What toilet and shower facilities are available in Surin Islands?

At Chong Khad headquarters and campsite, there are two separate blocks of toilets and showers available for men and women.  Please note that toilet paper is not provided, but it can be purchased at the kiosk located in the restaurant area. The showers and sinks at the campsite provide cold water.

Additionally, within the Chong Khad reception area, there are two individual toilets, and an outdoor shower is available on the beach of the campsite.

Furthermore, the Mae Ngam campsite also features a dedicated block of toilets and showers for both men and women.

Is there electricity in Surin Islands?

The National Park operates on generator electricity only during the overnight hours. This allows for the possibility of recharging electronic devices between 6pm and 6am. Sockets for charging are available in both the reception area and the restaurant.

Please note that there may be a high demand for these sockets, so it is advisable to either connect your devices immediately upon returning from the afternoon snorkeling session, in preparation for the generator being switched on at 6pm, or bring along an extension lead to create additional sockets for multiple devices.

Will we see whale sharks or manta rays?

Whale sharks and oceanic manta rays are both rare migratory species that traverse the Andaman Sea and other regions. They do not have a permanent presence in any specific location. Occasionally, during February and March, they may make appearances at open sea sites in Surin, such as Hin Pae, Koh Torinla, and Koh Stork. However, it’s important to note that sightings cannot be guaranteed at any time of the year. If you are fortunate enough to witness one of these majestic creatures, it will undoubtedly be a remarkable experience.

On the other hand, your chances of encountering black-tip reef sharks and blue-spotted stingrays are relatively higher. These species are known to frequent the reefs surrounding the Surin Islands, particularly Koh Torinla and Pak Kaad, which are usually included in a Surin 3d2n trip.

Are the snorkeling sites appropriate for beginners or inexperienced snorkelers?

Absolutely, all the snorkeling sites explored during the Surin Islands day trip and day 1 of the Surin 3d2n tour consist of shallow reefs located in protected waters. These sites are specifically suitable for individuals who are new to snorkeling or lack experience in the activity. However, on days 2 and 3 of the Surin 3d2n tour, the snorkeling sites visited may be situated in more remote areas or less sheltered waters. Rest assured, your trip leader will assess the sea conditions and ensure the chosen snorkeling spot is safe, taking into consideration the experience level of the snorkelers.

Given the wide array of snorkeling spots available in Surin, your trip leader will always opt for locations that are shielded from prevailing currents or waves. We strongly recommend that all novice snorkelers wear lifejackets to ensure their safety and enhance their overall comfort during the activity.

Is bedding provided for the tent accommodation?

Each person staying in a tent is provided with a sleeping bag, pillow, and sleeping mat.

What is the occupancy capacity of each tent?

Each tent accommodates 2 people. In the case of an odd number of people in your group, one person will have a tent to themselves.

Who are the Moken people?

The Moken people, also known as sea gypsies or Chao Ley, are an ethnic group residing in the Surin Islands, specifically in Surin National Park in Thailand. They are a traditionally nomadic community that has historically lived a seafaring lifestyle, relying on fishing and marine resources for their subsistence. The Moken have a unique relationship with the sea and possess exceptional knowledge of the marine environment.

Some Moken individuals have been granted permission by the Thai government to settle in a designated area on one of the beaches in Surin National Park. They have established a village with stilt houses, a school, and a community medical facility. Visitors to the Surin Islands may have the opportunity to visit the Moken Village and learn about their culture and way of life. Supporting the Moken community by purchasing their handcrafted souvenirs is one way to contribute to their welfare.

It is advisable to bring small Thai Baht notes, such as 20, 50, and 100 denominations, as the villagers may not have sufficient change for 500 or 1000 Baht notes.

Why do I need to attach a copy of my passport?

The submission of a copy of your passport is necessary due to the requirements of the National Park of Thailand. This is a standard procedure for all guests. Please rest assured that your personal data will be handled securely and kept confidential.
